Songfacts®:

  • In 2002, Santana teamed up with Michelle Branch on "The Game Of Love," the first single from their album Shaman. When the group returned in 2005 with the album All That I Am, Branch was invited back to sing on "I'm Feeling You" - she was the only guest vocalist to appear on both albums.

Once again, the song was the album's lead single. It ended up being the only one from the set to make the Hot 100, coming in at #55.
  • Lyrically, this song is similar to "The Game Of Love" in that it explores the often irrational ebbs and flows of the emotion. The woman in this song doesn't always like her partner, but she's always feeling him.
  • Michelle Branch wrote the song with her producer, John Shanks, and with Kara DioGuardi, who would later become a judge on American Idol. At the time, Branch had put her solo career on hold and was making music with her friend Jessica Harp in a duo called The Wreckers, which like Branch, was signed to Maverick Records. Maverick pulled some strings to make sure Harp was on the track (she sang backup) and that it was credited to "Santana featuring Michelle Branch, The Wreckers." It was great promotion for the duo, but their album didn't come out until a year later.

In a Songfacts interview with Michelle Branch, she said: "John called me in and he was so excited. He was like, 'I had a chance to produce a song and you're the only person who can sing it. Come in and finish it with us.'"
  • Branch, who was six months pregnant at the time with her daughter Owen, stars in the music video, singing and playing acoustic guitar next to Carlos Santana, who handles electric. Directed by The Malloys, it's set at club where a fashionable crowd that looks like they've just entered the VH1 demographic dances to the tune.
