Songfacts®:

  • In Voices Of Latin Rock: The People And Events That Created This Sound, the origin of "Stone Flower" is described succinctly by Mike Shrieve: it was written by Antonio Carlos Jobim as an instrumental, and "I wrote the lyrics on acid. Carlos and I sang the song."

Phil Mogg said something similar about the UFO track "Flying", which is where the similarity begins and ends.
  • Antonio Carlos Jobim (1927-94) was a prolific Brazilian composer, and the main composer of the Bossa Nova era, and "Stone Flower" running 3:21, was the title track of one of his best known albums. Though Shrieve's acid inspired plant appears to have no relation to the Stone Flower of Russian folklore, it remains a fine track on an exceptional album. >>>

  • Bob from ArizonaThis entire album was so far ahead of its time, and may still be. This song and its lyrics make you think about what LIFE
is, and transcends the spiritual with the organic, and therefore fits exactly with the theme of Caravanserai. "Realize that the secret is to share",
melds perfectly with "everybody needs a helping hand". Mike, you created a very sound piece of insight here. Thank you.
