Songfacts®:

  • Sarah Groves received inspiration for this poignant song while traveling overseas, listening to recounted stories of refugees fleeing war and oppression in various parts of the world. She decided to record it as a duet with her 11-year-old daughter, Ruby.

"I wanted a way for Ruby and I to remember the number of people who are on the road, displaced and wandering on any given night," said Groves. "Due to war and violence, there are more displaced people right now than any other time in history, and I want to be in the number who are responding in love - both in person in my community, and in my music."
