Angel

Album: Dreamchaser (2012)
Play Video

Songfacts®:

  • With its synth-heavy sound and ethereal vocals, "Angel" peaked at #42 on Billboard's Dance/Club Play Songs Chart.

The first song on Brightman's 2013 album Dreamchaser, the song was written by Sally Herbert and Jerry Burns specifically for the singer. It was the first single to be released from the album via Brightman's official website on September 26, 2012, and it was later released for purchase on October 15, 2012 in Europe and Mexico. In our interview with Sarah Brightman, she explained that it was the first song she and her producer, Mike Hedges, started working on for the album.
  • This song captures the very essence of Brightman, as it not only brags her incredible vocal range but its accompanying music video reveals childhood home videos and snippets of cartoons and space travel, exuding special themes and memories throughout her life. The video was first released onto YouTube on October 10, 2012 at a total length of four minutes and thirty-one seconds. It was made available for download on October 30, 2012.
  • Through the song's lyrics, Brightman seems to capture life experiences through the comforting words of an angel. Interestingly, Brightman starred in the role of Christine Daaé - the Angel of Music - in her ex-husband Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera.

The heights to which she takes her voice in "Angel" is, in the best way, eerily reminiscent of her impressive soprano vocals in the aforementioned musical.
