Krakatoa

Songfacts®:

  • This is a run of the mill but half-decent heavy metal track about one of the most famous natural disasters in history. In 1883, the volcano Krakatoa (or Krakatau) erupted killing some forty thousand people. The resulting explosion is thought to have been the loudest heard in modern history.

In 1969, a film Krakatoa, East Of Java was released, based on the tragedy. The eruption has of course been the subject of numerous documentaries, books and articles, including many scholarly works.
  • "Krakatoa" was released in 1985 as the B-side of "Rock 'N' Roll Gypsy," but surprisingly did not find its way onto an album; certainly it is as good as many of the band's earlier recordings, energy-wise. >>>
