Songfacts®:

  • In an interview with Kerrang! published February 20, 1988, lead vocalist Biff Byford said of this track it is about the sinking of the Titanic, but the song can be seen as a metaphor for people's belief in things being unsinkable.

The Titanic departed from Southampton on its maiden voyage on April 10, 1912, calling at France and then Ireland en route to New York. On April 14, it hit an iceberg off the coast of Newfoundland and sank with the loss of over 1500 lives.
  • Co-written by Biff with guitarists Graham Oliver and Paul Quinn, "S.O.S." is the fifth and longest track on the 1988 Destiny album, running to around 6 minutes.
  • The track begins and ends with some sound effects - the sea - and is of course in no way connected with the ABBA song of the same name. >>
