Songfacts®:

  • This THC and Gwen Bunn produced song features a guest appearance from Schoolboy Q's Black Hippy cohort Kendrick Lamar. A couple of K. Dot's lines are in Spanish and Q confessed to MTV News that he didn't understand his close friend's Hispanic rhymes. "I have no idea what he said," he admitted. "And I had no idea he was gonna do that. I remember seeing him talking to a Spanish dude while he was writing it and he came up with that and I was very upset because he killed it."
  • The song's theme is based around Q buying huge amounts of weed for himself with his newly earned rap money. However Lamar does not smoke, so his verse is based on performing sexual acts. It was released as the lead single from Schoolboy Q's major-label debut release, Oxymoron. "This is like the introduction to the album," Q told MTV News. "This is just getting people excited and getting people ready for what's about to happen."
  • "Collard Greens" got a second wind in 2021 after being used for a TikTok dance challenge.
  • Lamar drops some bars not only in Spanish but also spits a few French words too, despite not speaking either language. A Peruvian man who worked at Interscope Studios taught him the phrases.
