Songfacts®:

  • "Big City Nights" is the sixth track on the album Love at First Sting, their ninth studio album. It was composed by band members Rudolf Schenker and Klaus Meine. In 2010, Schenker told us: "In the beginning of our career, we had a problem in Germany because nobody expects a German band to play rock music. With rock music, there are more bands from England or America, which are more exotic than the Scorpions, who are from Germany. But when we went to America in '79, we became the exotic ones. They said, 'Hey, what kind of crazy guys are these?' (laughs) We were already exotic, with a different view, and we also play our rock music with a little bit of an ethnic touch. You'll notice that Americans come from the blues side, whereas we come from the classical side, which is different."
  • The band Fozzy did a cover version of this song on their album Happenstance.
  • "Big City Nights" was also one of the songs chosen for the 2000 album Moment of Glory, with orchestral arrangements performed by the Scorpions with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
  • While this song was released as the third single from the album with the B-side "Bad Boys Running Wild," it didn't chart - perhaps overshadowed by the hit "Rock You Like A Hurricane." Scorpion fans might feel slighted by the Billboard charts - they've only broken the Top-40 twice, once for "Hurricane" and once for "Wind Of Change." That's after a career currently spanning five decades!
