  • Although he is best known as a composer of instrumental music, rags in particular, Scott Joplin also wrote songs. "A Picture Of Her Face" - his second published work - is a tearful ballad about a departed love, copyrighted by Leiter Brothers on July 3, 1895.
  • Joplin's biographer, Edward Berlin, has suggested that as with his first published song, "Please Say You Will", he may have had some assistance from Marie Walker, a local musician who ran a music store with her husband. >>>
