  • On November 18, 2006, Creed frontman Scott Stapp fell from the penthouse balcony of Miami's Delano Hotel. The result of a reckless moment while under the influence of drugs, the 40-foot plunge landed him on his head, fracturing his hip and nose. Miraculously, he survived; a mere inch in either direction would have proved fatal.

"That was one of my nine lives," Stapp told Consequence. "And I think I'm on 11, but, that was one of my nine. I was fortunate to survive that. And I was found by the rapper T.I., and my life was saved. And the journey began there to try to start changing my life."

"It's not been a straight line," Stapp continued. "There's been five steps forward, two steps back, and that's part of my story. I think, coming to the place that I am now, being where I am now, discovering the importance of my spiritual condition and my relationship with God as it pertains to my maintaining sobriety and everything else kind of falling into place - as long as I maintain that connection with my higher power, with God, good things happen in my life."

Born during the dark and difficult isolation of quarantine, this propulsive track turns Stapp's own near-death experience into an acknowledgment of God's grace.
  • "Higher Power" is the opening song, title track and lead single of Stapp's fourth solo album. "As a statement of where I am, where I've been, what I believe, and where I want to be moving forward," said Stapp. "There was no other song that I thought would be more appropriate to lead off with as the title track."
  • Stapp co-wrote "Higher Power" with Steve McEwan. Nashville songwriter and musician Steve McEwan has penned huge country hits for the likes of Kenny Chesney ("Summertime"), Carrie Underwood ("Just A Dream") and Keith Urban ("Only You Can Love Me This Way").
  • Frequent Aerosmith collaborator Marti Frederiksen and Scott Stevens (Shinedown, Halestorm, New Years Day) produced the Higher Power album with co-production by Stapp. Frederiksen and Stevens also helmed Stapp's 2019 album, The Space Between The Shadows.
  • "Higher Power" peaked at #10 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart, giving Stapp his first solo Top 10 rock hit.
