Songfacts®:

  • This is one of two original songs on Scotty McCreery's festive collection, Christmas With Scotty McCreery. "I wanted it to be holly and jolly and really lift people's spirits in the Christmas season, because it's supposed to be a really happy time," said the teen singer of the album. "But I also wanted to get across the real reason for the season. 'Christmas in Heaven' is my favorite song on the album and it really speaks to that."
  • When he was getting ready to record Christmas With Scotty McCreery, Scotty had been writing a song about missing a loved one whose no longer here, but opted to record one with a similar subject matter instead. "I was writing about my grandfather that passed on, telling how I missed him here and wondering what Christmas was like in heaven," Scotty explained to The Boot. "My choir director was at a conference for choir directors and we told her to be on the lookout for songs [because] we were doing a Christmas album. She sent us a couple things that were kind of cool, but then she sent me 'Christmas in Heaven' and after the first verse, I stopped and said, 'This is it!'"
