Songfacts®:

  • Despite its title, this J.T. Harding, Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne penned song is the antithesis of a carefree summer anthem. It describes a heartbroken man who desperately wants to forget a painful memory and move on with his life:

    "Since you're gone
I can't hear another feel good summer song
The sunshine only lights up what is wrong
I should just give in and sing along,"

Scotty explained: "Every time he turns on the radio station, he just hears another feel-good country song. He says, 'How can I get over you when every station is playing a feel-good country song?'"
