Songfacts®:

  • This song begins with a stark piano melody before building into a climactic, soulful refrain. "I just tried to imagine the one thing your significant other would most want to hear from you," Seal said. "You ask your partner, 'Why do you love me? Why are you with me?' and the response is, 'There are many reasons, but one of the main reasons is, every time I'm with you, I feel wanted.'"

"I can't think of many things that are more beautiful, which I'd either want to say or hear," he continued. "It was my attempt at being romantic! Whether or not, I achieved it, only time will tell," Seal added laughing.
  • The 7 album contains songs about the different aspects of love. Having divorced model-TV host Heidi Klum in 2012 before becoming involved with Australian singer-model Erica Packer, Seal was able put his own unique perspective on matters of the heart.

Seal told Jam! Music: "I wanted to try and capture, at times, a realistic and raw form of all the different dynamics of love. The different feelings. The different emotions. Not necessarily the different types but the different effects, the different reactions we have to it. So like the extreme highs, the extremes lows, the extreme happiness, the extreme sadness, the anger, the recklessness, the damning, the finality of it, the conciliatory aspects and the compassion, and the resolution."
  • The song features an orchestral arrangement from Anne Dudley, who was one of the core members of the synthpop band Art of Noise along with 7 producer Trevor Horn. Dudley has also found success as a film composer, winning in 1998, an Academy Award for Best Original Musical or Comedy Score for The Full Monty.
