Songfacts®:

  • The closing track of American blues musician Seasick Steve's sixth studio album You Can't Teach An Old Dog New Tricks is a sobering reflection on mortality made all the more poignant by Steve's advancing years (he was 70 when the album was released) and a brush with death following a heart attack in 2004. He told The Sun: "The heart attack thing was a really close call so I don't wanna waste too much time. I think being dead's gonna be f---ing boring. I wish I could tell everybody not to waste their time. But I didn't listen to nobody when I was young so who the f--- am I to say anything?"
  • Led Zeppelin legend John Paul Jones plays mandolin on this song. The four string maestro also contributed bass to couple of the other album tracks, "Back In The Doghouse" and "You Can't Teach An Old Dog New Tricks."
