Calling your name, the only language I can speak
Taking my breath, a souvenir that you can keep

Many Weeknd fans interpreted his 2018 track "Call Out My Name" as a reflection on his breakup with Gomez.

Sunset Tower lobby, waiting there for me
In the elevator, fumble for your key

Tabloids spotted Gomez and The Weeknd leaving Los Angeles' Sunset Tower hotel together on July 28, 2017.
  • Gomez wrote the song with:

Ian Kirkpatrick, who also produced the track. The Los Angeles-based songwriter's other Gomez productions include the singles "Bad Liar," "Back to You" and "Look at Her Now."

Songwriter Sean Douglas, who has placements with both pop stars (Demi Lovato's "Sorry Not Sorry") and country stars (Thomas Rhett's "Die a Happy Man").

Los Angeles-based songwriter Madison Love, who also co-penned Rare's title track. Her other credits include G-Eazy & Halsey's "Him & I" and Ava Max's "Sweet But Psycho."

  • Peter Boy from NzI actually wrote this song... My name's in the instrumental section and is repeated over and over again during the instrumental sections, beginning middle and end... Example "calling your name the only language I can speak ... Giving me chills... Peter Boy...Peter Boy.... Peter Boy" I was surprised they left it in.
