  • This song was written by Semisonic frontman Dan Wilson, who explained: "When I wrote that song I was thinking about sex and relationships and what makes for a good partner in life. It's not always whether you're compatible, it's much more whether you have some chemistry - whether there's a spark. When we finished the album, I realized the same is true about being in a band. It doesn't matter if your musicianship is perfect, it doesn't matter if everybody has the same taste, all that matters is if there's chemistry between the band members, so I chose that as the title of the album also."
  • The line "all about chemistry" provided the title for the album, which was Semisonic's third. Soon after, the band's mixture became unstable and broke down; Wilson embarked on a solo career and became a top songwriter for other artists, co-writing Adele's monster hit "Someone Like You."
