Songfacts®:

  • This song's meaning is open to interpretation. In the video, a couple seem to have made a suicide pact, but the man doesn't go through with it and the woman dies alone. Tankian could be making a statement regarding world affairs and the lies of the Bush administration. >>>

  • Tankian told Kerrang! magazine that this "is a funny a song but I had some very serious lyrics to it. Man, I went in there five f--king times trying to make that song great, but it just wasn't working. Then I realized the lyrics were way too serious for such a silly song. So I ripped them up, threw them on the floor and went in and did it all on the fly, just having fun and creating it all again from scratch. In the end the song became this really crazy, humorous drama. And you have to do that. You have to be critical and keep changing things until it sounds right."

  • Crose from United StatesTo me, it reads as if a much older sister sexually abused her younger brother, probably for years. "You pay twice my size" seems to indicate she's twice his age and therefore must pay twice the retribution for the crime committed.
He is persistant in begging her to let him go if she loves him. He seems confused on the nature of their relationship, but recognizes that is a very abnormal and abusive relationship, hence the "have some pride". He eventually cons her into jumping off a cliff by faking a suicide pact with her.
In the end, he's finally free of her abuse, and is relieved it's over.
I could be way off base, but that's how it reads.
  • Ukasyah from IndonesiaIn my opinion, the brother represented the United States and the sister represented all the places the US helped. So the US used to be a helper in every problem in every place. The US did that because they wanted something rare in every country that the US helped. for example: oil, gold, etc.

  • Ed from San Fransisco, Ca@Edwin: What a lot of people have been saying, is the sister represents the US, and the brother represents all the places the US is "helping"
  • Edwin from Guayama, Puerto Ricoi still don't understand the part where he says " cause im your brother your brother have some pride" i mean i hope he isnt talking about incest
