Songfacts®:

  • London-based singer Shakka Philip, known simply as Shakka, grew up in a musical family. His Dominican father, is a guitarist and producer of the reggae band The Foreigners Crew, and in his younger days, Shakka contributed keyboards and some vocals for the band. After releasing a series of YouTube covers and mashups, Shakka first came to the public attention in his home country in 2013 when he was the guest vocalist on Wretch 32's UK Top 10 hit "Blackout." Two years later, he clocked up his first entry as the lead artist on the UK singles chart when "Say Nada" peaked at #75. A hook-up with grime MC JME, it won Best Collaboration at the MOBO Awards.
  • "Man Down" is a collaboration with AlunaGeorge vocalist Aluna Francis. The pair sing of a relationship which started off as just a bit of fun, until Aluna began to take it more seriously.

    I'm like, man down
    Baby wanna take my life
She don't wanna be no side
She just wanna be my wife

Though Shakka only wants her as a side girl, Aluna wants to get involved with his life.
