Songfacts®:

  • Shame are a South London rock group comprising vocalist Charlie Steen, guitarist Sean Coyle-Smith, guitarist Eddie Green, bassist Josh Finerty and drummer Charlie Forbes. This is a song from their debut album, Songs of Praise, which was recorded in just 10 days in 2017.
  • Here, Charlie Steen sings about sexual exploitation. He explained to Q Magazine:

"Darkness is an area you're naturally attracted to as a person whether you admit it or not. When I wrote Gold Hole I hadn't even had sex but I was obsessed with the sugar daddy images being promoted by Lana Del Rey or whatever pop star. Writing a love song was never on the agenda because I've never been in love, so why not write about stuff that I was fascinated by."
