Songfacts®:

  • Irish DJ and producer Shane Codd's first big break came when he was a finalist in the 2018 Breakout Producer competition held by Dublin DJ Mark McCabe. After performing in cities and towns across Ireland, Codd released this piano-driven vocal house banger as his debut single.
  • Codd originally made "Get Out My Head" in the spring of 2020 when he took a break from his college studies of Business because of the COVID restrictions. He created the song in his bedroom as a response to the suffocating coronavirus lockdown. Codd explained: "I wanted to get out and do things and I also wanted the stress of COVID out of my head."
  • Making the track was a form of escape for the producer; when he played it in his car he "imagined festivals and people dancing," which felt like a distant memory during COVID.
  • When Codd posted the track online he was blown away by the positive reaction, with people saying how it helped them during lockdown. The viral song generated a buzz of interest from major labels, and Polydor signed the young Irish producer. After the label re-released the track, it started climbing the UK and Irish charts.
