Songfacts®:

  • This song was written by Shania Twain and her producer husband Robert John "Mutt" Lange. It was the second song released to North American pop radio and the third to international markets from her 1997 album Come On Over. The original version of the song features fellow country singer Bryan White, while the re-recorded version for pop radio featured Twain solo plus instrumentation from the Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra.
  • The song was written at a soccer game in Italy, as a love song between Twain and Lange. Twain explained: "We were in Italy two years ago, and we were at a soccer game. My husband loves sports. I don't know the game that well, so my mind drifted and I started writing." Twain and Lange were married from 1994-2008. (Source of quote Tommy's #1 Shania Twain Supersite)
  • "From This Moment On" won the award for Vocal/Instrumental Collaboration of the Year at the 1999 Canadian Country Music Awards.
  • Shania Twain originally wrote "From This Moment On" for Céline Dion to sing. "I was really thinking about it being this pop power ballad," she told US Weekly.

As Twain and Lange developed the song further, Lange convinced her to keep it for herself. Twain told Dion about the intention. "I figure that's too late now," she said. "It's already my hit. She can't have it now."

Twain and Lange decided the song would work best as a duet, with their first choice being Elton John, though they ultimately went with Bryan White.
