Songfacts®:

  • In this song, Shania Twain has been struck by Cupid's arrow and is madly in love with some lucky guy. In her mind, she's making plans for their wedding and naming their kids, but no one needs to know any of this right now, because she still needs to make her move.
  • Twain wrote this with Mutt Lange, who also produced the song. It was her fourth #1 Country hit, with all four coming from her second album, The Woman In Me.

After Twain released her first album in 1993, few predicted that she's become a top-selling superstar. Singles from that album didn't even reach the top half of the country chart, and Twain didn't do any of the songwriting. She was also 28 years old, pretty late to be starting her career.

But with Lange, she made a real connection both professionally and personally. They got married at the end of 1993 after just six months of dating and wrote most of the song for The Woman In Me as a team. Along the way, Twain's sassy style took shape, which comes through in the songs.

Released early in 1995, the album was still kicking out singles over a year later. Twain became a regular on all those "new country" radio stations that popped up during the decade, rivaling Garth Brooks in popularity. She and Lange kept the momentum going with her next album, Come On Over, released in 1997. Hits from that one include "That Don't Impress Me Much" and "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!"
  • "No One Needs To Know" was used in the 1996 movie Twister and appears on the soundtrack. It's the only country song on the soundtrack, which includes offerings from Van Halen, Mark Knopfler, Tori Amos and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
  • The music video was directed by Steven Goldmann and shot at a house in Spring Hill, Tennessee, where Twain and her band perform the song as a tornado bears down on them, a reference to the song's use in Twister.
