Songfacts®:

  • The song was written by Shawn Mendes, Ido Zmishlany, and Scott Harris while Mendes was on tour with Austin Mahone in the summer of 2014. Songwriter/producer, Ido Zmishlany, revealed in our interview how Mendes' extremely fast and unexpected success inspired the tune. "If you can imagine, we're on this tour bus driving to these 3,000 seat shows where all these kids are singing every single word to the songs that we just wrote three months ago with a kid that wasn't signed yet," he said. "It was insane how quickly it all happened. I think the song was just a reflection of it."
  • Shawn told MTV News this "upbeat" single sends a positive message to his fans. "The song was written on our tour bus over the summer, and it's meant to be a very positive song about good things happening to people."

"When we wrote it, it just felt right because it really speaks on how things have happened so fast for me," he added, "and how in general good things can happen to anyone if they just stay positive."
