Songfacts®:

  • Written by the poet and folk singer Sydney Carter (1915-2004), "Landlord And Tenant" was recorded by the actress Sheila Hancock as the B Side of the novelty song "My Last Cigarette." It is performed in the same manner, accompanied by solo acoustic guitar. It remains to be seen if it is a novelty song or a comedy song, but at a cursory listening it doesn't appear to make a lot of sense. >>
