Songfacts®:

  • Crow penned this socio-political message song with former NRBQ guitarist Al Anderson and Nashville songwriter Leslie Satcher. It was inspired by December 2012's school shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, which left 20 children and six adult staff members dead. Talk of the Mayan Calendar and the end of the world was also an influence. "I found myself asking if our best days are behind us now," Crow says. "Because I have a 4-year-old and a 6-year-old now, I feel like I can't afford to think that way."
