Songfacts®:

  • On "Where I Belong," Simple Plan collaborated with the bands State Champs and We The Kings. They wrote it so they would have a song to perform together during their tour in the fall of 2019, the "Where I Belong" tour.

All three bands were mainstays on the Warped Tour, which ended that year. This song evokes the spirit of Warped, where concertgoers can have a carefree good time while feeling part of a community.
  • Simple Plan go back to their pop-punk roots on this song, which is about finding your place in the world, a theme found in many of their songs. "People that listen to pop-punk, it really is a huge part of who they are, and it seems to resonate on a deeper level than just enjoying the music," lead singer Pierre Bouvier told Billboard. "I wanted to illustrate that - the show and the music being a safe place for people to hang and people to be and to find themselves."
  • The line, "I'm sorry that I can't be perfect" is a reference to Simple Plan's hit "Perfect." The line, "I'll let you in on one of my secrets" refers to State Champs' song "Secrets."
  • The video, directed by Chady Awad, uses footage from the Where I Belong tour.
