Songfacts®:

  • In this song, Sinéad O'Connor enters a place of comfort and healing. Throughout the song, we hear whispered affirmations simulating the positive voice inside her.

"It's a mantra and it takes people, hopefully, to another world," she explained in her memoir Rememberings. "When I go onstage, I always pray that I can be a priest and that when I leave, people will feel like they've been at church. 'The Healing Room' gives me that healing feeling."
  • The song is part of O'Connor's fifth album, Faith And Courage. She got help from several producers on the album, including Dave Stewart of Eurythmics, who worked on four of the songs. "The Healing Room" was written by O'Connor and produced by Skip McDonald and Adrian Sherwood, with Sherwood also playing guitar and keyboards. It's the first track on the album.
