  • Typically, lead singer Ken Block writes the songs for Sister Hazel. That changed with their 2009 album Release, where all members of the band contributed. Their guitarist Ryan Newell told us: "I wrote the song 'Release' with Pat McGee and Emerson Hart (Tonic). The song felt like a good theme for this record. We let go of a lot of things personally and band related. We took a different approach on this record and 'released' the past method." Regarding the album title, Ken Block added: "The word "release" just makes you feel good doesn't it? It's also a little quirky play on words for a new release. The song came out great too..."
