Songfacts®:

  • Skillet lead vocalist John Cooper explained the song's meaning in an interview with Listenin.org: "'Best Kept Secret' is just a song basically saying that, first of all, in finding God it was as if it unlocked this amazing secret that no one else knew 'cause it was so real to me. And then the other side of 'Best Kept Secret' is the fact that we shouldn't keep that excitement and joy that we have when we did find God, we shouldn't keep that a secret and it is the best thing going on."
  • Korey Cooper, Skillet's keyboardist and the frontman's wife, explains what she likes best about the song: "My favorite part of the song is 'let it out.' It's talking about 'you're the best kept secret' and here You [God] are all over the place and yet people don't really know You, but our job really is to let it out. You know, it's not really cool that it's a secret, we're supposed to let it out and really tell everybody about Jesus."
