Songfacts®:

  • According to Skillet's lead vocalist, John Cooper, this track is about being aware of the person you've become and deciding if it's the person you want to be. He told Listenin.org: "I guess 'Forsaken' is one of those songs when you just kind of feel like you forgotten who you wanted to be and... maybe, kinda looking at yourself and going, 'Man, that's not who I was a few years ago, I don't like this.' And I think that sometimes it's easy just in the business of things just to forget what you're passionate about, you know. And I think that it's not because of fame or certainly not fortune, haha, it's just from getting busy, man, you know? Having kids, going to work, and doing all these things you just go, 'Man, there are things that were important to me when I was younger 'cause I didn't have stress - all these things' and it's kind of like you look back at all your memories and it's like you've forsaken those good times and that's what, really, that song is about just saying 'Man, I wanna be different than this.'"
