Songfacts®:

  • Skillet frontman John Cooper says the title track to the Christian rock band's second studio album is about loving people the way Jesus did. He told Listenin.org: "'Hey You, I Love Your Soul,' we're singing to people. That came from when my pastor was talking, he was saying that he wondered if we're becoming more like Jesus, can we love people's souls the way that God cares for their souls? The idea went into, you know, you can hate me and you can hate everything that I say but I'm gonna love you instead, which is what the gospel's all about. Jesus loved people that hated Him, which will always be one of the biggest issues in life."
  • Cooper co-wrote this with his wife, Korey Cooper, who officially joined the band as keyboardist/rhythm guitarist on Skillet's next album, Invincible.
