Skye Newman is a British singer-songwriter whose music blends R&B and pop influences. Lyrically, she's known for her storytelling and emotional depth.
Raised in various locales, Newman grew up in low-income households and moved a lot, but she considers South East London her true home. She often channels those itinerant times into her music.

"Life can be hard but I love the way I grew up because I got to experience and understand people," Newman told The Guardian. "It made me very empathetic."
Newman's musical journey started with her aunt, a jazz and blues singer, introduced her to songwriting and studio work.

"I started going to the studio with my auntie and watching her write and that's then where my love for writing comes from because I've always been a storyteller," Newman told Apple Music's Rebecca Judd. "I've always liked to write poems and anything that I can get my words out in a way that was healthy. I didn't necessarily like talking about things. That's what I did. It was just amazing watching her do that and it really, really pushed me to want to pursue a career in it."

Later influences like Amy Winehouse, Adele, Bob Marley, and Eminem further shaped her sound.
Before turning to music full time, she studied law and criminology at the University of East Anglia.
After gaining attention through viral cover videos on social media, Newman signed with Columbia Records. Her debut single, "Hairdresser," released in March 2025, was well received attention and entered the UK Singles chart.
Beyond music, Newman enjoys ice skating, which she finds freeing and energizing.
Skye Newman gave her first performance at age 6, singing Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" at a school show. "I don't know how, but my little voice managed to do it at the time," she laughed to the BBC.
Skye Newman was named the winner of BBC Radio 1's Sound of 2026 in January 2026, capping a breakthrough year that saw her emerge as one of the UK's key new pop voices. Voted for by over 170 artists and industry figures, the accolade placed her alongside past Sound Of alumni such as Adele, Sam Smith and Chappell Roan.
