Songfacts®:

  • In June 1993, Lorena Bobbitt hacked off her husband's penis as he lay in bed asleep, drove off with it, and lobbed it into a field. Coming to her senses, she dialed 911; she was arrested, but more importantly the organ was found and incredibly reattached. Lorena Bobbitt was tried for her crime but was found not guilty by reason of insanity.

The relatively happy ending for the victim, and his slightly odd surname caused much mirth at the time and since, but of course there was nothing funny about the affair. Would anyone have laughed if she'd cut off one of his fingers?
  • Canadian punk band SNFU recorded this song about what in an earlier age might have been a bizarre murder ballad. The reference to John Bobbitt in the second verse "doing porno films" is factually accurate. He was left with heavy medical and legal bills, and under the circumstances, no one can blame him for "cashing in" on his notoriety.

Needless to say, the marriage also ended in divorce. While his wife was found insane, John Wayne Bobbitt appears to have gone off the rails, having a number of run-ins with the law, something that is certainly understandable, whether or not it is forgivable. >>>
