Songfacts®:

  • This is the third single from American rapper Snoop Dogg's tenth solo album, Malice N Wonderland.
  • The opening line "Right About Now" and the beat samples Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock's 1988 hit "It Takes Two."
  • The music video, directed by Eric Peyton, features a guest appearance by Jamie Foxx and showcases dance sequences from MTV's 2009 America's Best Dance Crew winners, Quest Crew, Power Rangers and the Snoopettes.
  • Malice N Wonderland is split into two sections, with the first half being the "Malice" with gritty, dark, gangsta lyrics and content while the other half is the "Wonderland," showing Snoop's fun-loving and light-hearted flows. This hard rap track opens the album. Snoop explained to MTV News: "I start off with so much malice in my heart when the record kicks in. By the time I get to the end of the record, I'm in Wonderland. I'm feeling good about life. I'm celebrating, happy about my wife, my kids, life in general. It's just a roller coaster of what I'm going through as I speak."
He added: "I've always juggled the line: 'Should I make a gangster record? 'Cause I could kill all you rappers if I wanted to,. Then I have to sit back and say, 'I'm a business, so I'm gonna make records that can help me in this business.' I have to make radio records, but when I don't care, y'all in trouble."
