Songfacts®:

  • Here, Snoop Dogg gives thanks to a person that was key to his success: himself. He looks back on his 20-plus years in the game and gives himself credit for all the hard work he put in to get to the top. It's the lead single and title track to Snoop's 17th album.
  • "I Wanna Thank Me" was inspired by a speech Snoop Dogg delivered when he got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on November 19, 2018. After thanking some of the folks who helped him out along the way, he said: "Last but not least, I wanna thank me," and explained some reasons why:

    For believin' in me
For doing all this hard work
    For having no days off
    For never quittin'
    For always being a giver

Audio from his speech was used to open the song.
  • This song emerged from a freestyle. Snoop explained in Pandora Stories: "Freestyles usually create a lot of good material because a freestyle is sort of a rough track of a great idea that can come to life. I've been known to create freestyles that have become real records and real hits. So I took that concept, because everywhere I went after I did that speech, people were telling me how they really enjoyed it and appreciated the fact that I was giving myself credit and giving myself props for what I had done, as opposed to thanking everybody else, so I just took the idea and ran to the studio."
  • Directed by Dah Dah, the music video opens with Snoop Dogg's Hollywood Walk of Fame, then shows archive footage from throughout his career.
  • Battlecat, a frequent Snoop Dogg collaborator, produced this track and used a talkbox to create the processed vocals. Also featured on the track is Marknoxx, who often works with Battlecat. Billy Davenport, Mark Dove and Terence Harden are also credited as writers.
  • At the end of this song, Snoop samples the 2001 Dr. Dre track "The Next Episode," which he featured on along with Nate Dogg and Kurupt.
