Songfacts®:

  • This tribute song to the movie Slumdog Millionaire is based on "Eastern Jam," by the British dubstep producers Chase & Status. One of the duo, Saul Milton told The Sun April 16, 2009 that after Snoop asked them if he could use the song, "within a week it was finished and we'd got T-shirts saying 'I Became A Snoop Dogg Millionaire' in the post."
  • The dubstep sound, which merges various garage and grime rudiments, arose in London in the early 2000s. For several years dubstep had retained a small but devoted following, however, the emergence of this track introduced the genre to a wider audience. It was LA music marketer Kosta Elcher who suggested to Snoop the possibility of recording a song based around the sound. Elcher recalled to The Independent April 24, 2009: "When I played the Chase and Status track to Snoop and his manager their faces were disgusted. Snoop was like, 'How did they get the bass to do that?' They were intrigued. Dubstep is an appealing sound but kind of disturbing and dark at the same time. It's actually a hard sound for rappers to work with because there's so much bass and other elements that drown out the vocals."
