  • "Damaged All My Goods" is the first single from the Los Angeles-based Spencer Marcu, the son of Donald Markowitz, co-writer of the Dirty Dancing hit "(I've Had) The Time of My Life." As he explained on the Bringin' It Backwards podcast, Marcu did some wild living as a teenager and had a lot of issues to work through - so many that his parents sent him off to a wildness camp in Utah to work them out. In this song, he reflects on his choices. "I don't have any more bad habits holding me back," he said. "I've learned to leave things alone if they're not working out... music is supposed to be a healing and spiritual experience."
  • The music video, directed by Matthew Freiheit, finds Marcu wandering through an amusement park where he's tempted by a carnie played by his uncle, the actor Ray Wise, known for his work in Twin Peaks and Fresh Off The Boat. "The song as seen through the video, is about trying to gain some hard-earned wisdom," Marcu explained. "It's about self-reflection and resistance from negative temptations as well as overcoming fear and doubt by letting things go."
  • Marcu played guitar and bass on this song; drums came courtesy of session legend Kenny Aronoff - they guy who played that unforgettable drum break on John Mellencamp's "Jack & Diane."

The song is a rocker, harkening back to the golden age of the genre. "I felt like making a '60s pop rock song for the 21st century," Marcu said.
