Songfacts®:

  • In this funk jam, Spin Doctors lead singer Chris Barron sings about a woman with a booty "about as wide as my garage door." The song is filled with sexual innuendo and crude-but-clever metaphors like "she's baking up a little bit of my rising, rising dough."

The song was an early live favorite for the band, first released on their 1991 live album Up for Grabs and later on their second studio album Turn It Upside Down in 1994.
  • The breakout hit for the Spin Doctors was "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong," a track from their 1991 debut studio album Pocket Full of Kryptonite. That song, about Chris Barron's evil stepmother, begins, "It's been a whole lot easier since the bitch left town."

In an effort to counter accusations of misogyny, he would often introduce "Little Miss" at concerts by saying it was about "how you don't have to be a woman to be a bitch," and sometimes he would dubiously claim that "Big Fat Funky Booty" was an ode to inner beauty. Other times, he told the truth: "This song is about big, fat butts."
