Songfacts®:

  • The chord structure on this track was inspired by Spiritualized's Jason Pierce's purchase of a 1929 Gibson acoustic guitar at a shop in Cincinnati. He explained to the Sun newspaper May 23, 2008: "It was like finding a beautiful record with a laminate sleeve. It's black with this really dark sound. I don't sit and play the guitar recreationally at all but I just felt compelled to play it. The melodies came real quick because that guitar happened to be in the bus all the time. Almost immediately I hit the chord shapes that became 'Soul On Fire' and 'Death Take Your Fiddle.'"
