  • "853-5937" was Squeeze guitarist Glenn Tilbrook's phone number. He wrote it as a jingle for his answering machine (in the '80s, a clever answering machine message was a big deal), and decided to make it into a song. It became Squeeze's second highest-charting song in America, after "Hourglass," but Tilbrook hates the song and has always kept it off of Squeeze's compilation albums.
