Songfacts®:

  • This six-man group out of Sacramento took their name from a lyric from Pink Floyd's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond": "You were caught in the crossfire of childhood and stardom, blown on the steel breeze." The group was discovered by the producer Kim Fowley, who found a demo tape of theirs among hundreds being discarded by a local nightclub.
  • This song was the first single from Steel Breeze's self-titled debut album with RCA Records. Its video quickly became an MTV staple in that network's second year.
  • Although the band remained active as late as 1994 (having undergone several lineup changes along the way), this song proved to be the highlight of Steel Breeze's commercial success. They had one more major hit with "Dreamin' Is Easy" (#30 in 1983), but subsequent single and album releases went nowhere. >>>

  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn November 20, 1982, Steel Breeze performed "You Don't Want Me Anymore" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program 'American Bandstand'...
At the time the song was in it's second of two weeks at #16 on Billboard's Top 100, that would also be it's peak position on the chart, and it spent twenty weeks on the Top 100...
It reached #9 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart...
The California group had one other Top 100 record, "Dreamin' Is Easy", it peaked at #30 {for 3 weeks} on February 27th, 1983...
Their 1982 self-titled debut album peaked at #50 on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart.
  • Art from Santa Clarita, CaliforniaDon the video has a white flying V in it...at least it looks white to me :)
  • Brent from Denair, CaSaw them a few times during their hey day in Nor Cal in the early 80's. Great band and performers. Also did Temptation Eyes and their version was outstanding. Good memories of this song at The Club!
  • Chet from Buffalo, NyA great pop rock song with interesting construction. Wish we could have heard more from them.
  • Don from San Antonio, TxNice. Didn't the guitar player have a baby blue flying V? I'm gonna feel stupid now if he didn't. I like She Shelia from the Producers too. Now THAT would be killer to see both bands play together.
