  • "And So I Know" was written by Stone Temple Pilots bass player Robert DeLeo and frontman Scott Weiland, who added the dreamy lyric to DeLeo's wistful track. Musically, it was inspired by bossa nova music. "It came from really just getting turned on to a lot of bossa nova at the time and learning those kind of chords and those voicings," DeLeo said in a Songfacts interview. "It's one of the most beautiful types of music to listen to. It's so pure, and when I listen to that, it kind of puts me in another place. That's what I love about bossa nova and the Brazilian spirit, and just how they approach music and their attitude towards it. It's hypnotic."
  • The line "campfire girls make me feel alright" is a reference to a Los Angeles band called Campfire Girls that Scott Weiland liked. They released an EP on Interscope Records in 1995 called Mood Enhancer, but petered out when their bass player, Andrew Clark, ran into problems with drug addiction (a condition familiar to Weiland). In 2000, Clark was touring with the band Bicycle Thief, which opened some shows for Stone Temple Pilots. Weiland pushed Clark to rekindle Campfire Girls, and he did.

With Weiland's support, the group re-signed with Interscope and released an album in 2003 called Tell Them Hi, which features Weiland's vocals on the track "Post-Coital." It ended up being their last album.
  • Released on the third STP album, Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop, there is some unusual instrumentation on this track. Robert DeLeo played guitar, electric harpsichord, vibraphone and percussion, while their producer, Brendan, O'Brien handled piano and additional percussion.
