  • Stone Temple Pilots guitarist Dean DeLeo told Artist Direct about this track: "'Dare If You Dare' is a song that I've had for quite some time and it finally saw the light of day on this album. I wrote that song years and years ago. It was great to have that song finally see the light of day. Everyone did such a phenomenal job on it. That song's pretty special to me."
  • Vocalist Scott Weiland was also the band's lyricist, and one of the lines in this song - "Is it a hickory hypothesis / Or one-man show?" - appears to acknowledge his functional détente with the band. "I need my bus with my assistant so I can work on other business," he told Spin magazine. "Besides, I don't like to sleep in a submarine anymore. We leave at different times. They like that vibe of having the elaborate dressing rooms, and I could give a s--t. I wanna do the show and go to the next place."
  • Dean DeLeo told Musicradar.com: "For the solo, I played a Les Paul and used an Octavia pedal ever so slightly. I don't even know if guitar players will be able to tell I used an Octavia because I used it so sparingly. But because I didn't go heavy with it, that's why there's an interesting tonality to the sound."
    He added: "It's a weird song because it was written on the piano and there's a chord change on almost every beat. For me to take it to the guitar and make it work was a big challenge, but one I'm very proud of."
