Songfacts®:

  • This country-ish song was brought to the table by bassist Robert DeLeo and cut at his home studio. As with the other songs on Stone Temple Pilots, vocalist Scott Weiland penned the lyrics. Guitarist Dean DeLeo told MusicRadar: "The interesting thing about our band is where Scott takes these tunes. Robert presented the song, and out of nowhere Scott calls it 'First Kiss On Mars,' even though the music is, like I said, kind of country. I'm very proud of the little solo - it's sweet and melodic.

This song has a very special meaning, however: Robert spent the last five years building a studio in his house, pretty much single-handedly. We cut most of this song in his studio, so it's really dear to him in that respect."

  • Sean from Folsom, CaYou mean that ISN'T Bowie dueting with Wieland on that song??! It totally sounds like him- I'd never even heard it before today...
  • Oren from IsraelAlessio - You are so correct. I was damn near sure it was David Bowie singing that part, but I wanted to be sure so I came here. It's not just that he sounds like him, and not just the fact that song title mentions mars, but at some point they're actually pontificating 'Modern Love' several times.
  • Alessio from Rome, ItalyLovely song.
It seems to me that it has a David Bowie's sound, especially when Weyland sings the main verse of the song. His voice is very similar to the White Duke's in those lines. Ehi, we're talking about Mars! :)
