Songfacts®:

  • This gospel-rocking album closer was brought to the table by bassist Robert DeLeo. As with the other songs on Stone Temple Pilots, vocalist Scott Weiland penned the lyrics. Guitarist Dean DeLeo told MusicRadar about it: "This is Robert's song and I think he wanted to combine different worlds. If you listen to the backbeat and check out what the bass and drums are doing, the drums are very distorted, very big and broken up, as is the bass. Yet the rest of the song is very beautiful and ethereal. Great piano playing too. And then Scott wrote this gorgeous and very dramatic story about a girl who goes to San Francisco. She wants to be a star and puts all her money on the ponies. He's an amazing storyteller. This song really shows us off all the way. I love it!"
  • Weiland's lyrics on Stone Temple Pilots differ from the STP's previous albums, which tended to focus on himself and his drug addictions. He told Artist Direct that he feels that he's grown as a lyricist, explaining: "[In] the '90s, I was so overwhelmed with my heroin addiction, and so a lot of the stuff was just from my point of view. Now, I tend to look at some of the greats like Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan. I look at their storytelling. I try to tell stories. Every song doesn't have to be narcissistically written about how I feel on that day."

  • Mdcny from Rochester, Nyknowing addiction at a personal addiction, and being a fan of STP from the beginning, both musically and lyrically I am so impressed with Scott's writings on this record and its so cool to just read that its recognized by the band-or maybe its just cool that I felt and noticed it and it being confirmed. Im really blown away by the lyrics and music on this record. Its slowly growing to be my favorite record of all times.. To me its The Doors-The Doors, GNR Appetite for Destruction and now STP's 2110 release. Just beautiful stuff and I think if I was younger it would be different. I believe growing up has something to do with it and this record to me is like perfect for where Im at. I just couldn't say enough about it..
