  • "Vossi Bop" takes inspiration from a viral dance move created by a now-suspended twitter account, @NL_Vossi.

My bruddas don't dab, we just Vossi bop
So much Vossi I might open up a Vossi shop
Mummy sayin' that I need to get some sleep

Stormzy came across the dance online in 2016. He told Beats 1's Julie Adenuga "it was just so infectious, and such a genuine joyous moment" that when he went into the studio a couple weeks later he laid down a track titled "Vossi Bop."

"This is my vibe right now," Stormzy added. "I think it just embodies everything that I'm about. The confidence, the humor, the style, the flair, the anarchy, the chaos, just the vibe. All of these things, I was like, 'This is me embodied.'"
  • Having originally recorded the track in 2016, Stormzy didn't release it until April 26, 2019. Speaking to Tom and Daisy on KISS Breakfast the grime artist explained why he kept the song under wraps for so long:

"It just didn't happen around the time for whatever reason and it's been a song that I've always, always known that I've really loved and I really want to release it... To this day I get people saying, where's Vossi Bop? You're getting the same. The same dish. The same thing, just put in the microwave and all be nice and warmed up and come back piping hot."
  • The song also maintains Stormzy's strong sense of social commentary with shots at the British government and leading pro-Brexit MP Boris Johnson.
  • The producer of the song, Chris Andoh, won the UK Single Song Release Of The Year award at the 2020 Music Producers Guild Awards. Stormzy also won the MPG Inspiration Award at the ceremony.
