Songfacts®:

  • There are certain pairings in life that seem so inevitable, you're almost surprised they didn't happen sooner. Fish and chips. Tea and biscuits. Sub Focus and Katy B. Both emerged in the UK dance scene at roughly the same time, sharing festival stages and late-night DJ lineups, yet somehow they never collaborated until "Push The Tempo" finally brought these two rave titans together.

The collaboration was long overdue, but as Sub Focus explained, their paths have crisscrossed for years. "Me and Katy have bumped into each other many times, moving in the same circles - having mutual friends like Skream and Benga, and we even train with the same personal trainer!"
  • "Push The Tempo" was the first song they wrote when Sub Focus and Katy B finally got together in the studio. They teased the track at a surprise pop-up show in London in September 2024, and a little over a month later, on October 25, 2024, they dropped the full song.
  • Sub Focus and Katy B wrote "Push The Temo" with Becky Hill's go-to writing partner Karen Poole, and with the production duo Punctual, comprising Will Lansley and John Morgan. Punctual's other credits include Nathan Dawe's "21 Reasons" and "Oh Baby," Switch Disco's "React." Ella Henderson's "Alibi" and BL3SS & CamrinWatsin's "Kisses."
  • Directed by the Three Shades trio alongside Duncan Lewis, the music video captures the magic of the dancefloor through the eyes of two clubgoers, played by Miguelangel Waldro and Harriet Leaf.
  • When the song debuted on the UK Singles chart dated January 5, 2025 at #63 it became Katy B's first entry since "I Wanna Be" reached #60 in 2016.
