Songfacts®:

  • After writing a series of angst-ridden numbers about tormented relationships for Suede's first two albums, frontman Brett Anderson penned this straightforward, contented love song for Coming Up. He told the NME in 2011: "The sentiment of 'Saturday Night' was something I'd never tried to do before, which was finding beauty in something ordinary and average. Before it was sort of casting myself as the kind of tortured Byronic hero."
  • The video for the song was directed by Pedro Romhanyi, who previously did the clips for "Animal Nitrate" and "Beautiful Ones." It starred British actress Keeley Hawes, who you may know from her role as time-travelling DI Alex Drake in the BBC drama series Life On Mars. It was shot on London Underground at a disused Piccadilly Line platform at Holborn station.
