Songfacts®:

  • Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush wondered if it was possible to write an emotional song about being numb. They thought it would be like writing a song about being loud by being quiet. This contemporary done-me-wrong song is the result. Nettles said on Sugarland's website of this song: "Subtlety and nuance make all the difference in this song. Painting emotions with broad strokes is easy, but this time we're using a toothbrush to dig through the finer emotions."

  • Sarah from Killeen, TxThe CD that this song is from, Love on the Inside, was released a few mos after the divorce of a very short-lived & tumultuous 1st marriage, that left me very emotionally wounded, & spiritually drained. The 1st time I heard this song, it chilled me to my core, & it immediately hit home w/me & I really identified w/the feelings & emotions expressed in the song...phenominal truth of heart & realism comprise this song...Beautiful & riveting!
