Songfacts®:

  • This is an autobiographical account of a love affair going wrong for Gruff Rhys, who exclaims at the beginning of the song, "This song is based on a true story, which would be fine if it wasn't autobiographical."
  • Gruff Rhys said on Pitchfork Media: "Every time we tour, during the day we usually go out and look for a secondhand vinyl store, and on the last tour we were picking up a lot of 7" singles. And we got into this girl group from Madagascar called Les Surfs. They did French covers of songs like 'Be My Baby,' and we were listening heavily to that record. I think it all kind of came to a head on 'Run-Away'."
